Carl & Jean McCarver
Carl and Jean McCarver were high school sweethearts at Ecru High School, Ecru, Mississippi, and married while still in school. On Christmas Eve (2011) we celebrated their 62nd Anniversary. We have two daughters, one son, and one son deceased, seven grand children (three girls and four boys), two grand sons-in-law, and three great grand sons. On June 14th, 2012, we will welcome another great grand son or great grand daughter.
Carl served in the United State Air Force and was stationed at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippine Islands for eighteen months. After leaving the service he went to work at a wholesale floor covering company as the buyer, where he worked for fifty years. Jean worked several places, and the last five years we worked, we worked together in the same office. We retired at the end of 2004 and moved into a condo in Olive Branch, Mississippi (four miles from the Tennessee/Mississippi state line), where we both are active in the Condo Association.
Carl and Jean graduated from square dance class in 1975 and have been involved in several capacities ever since. We were Services Chairman for the first National Square Dance Convention held in Memphis, Tennessee in 1980, and in 1990, we were the General Chairman for the 39th National Square Dance Convention, held in Memphis, Tennessee with 23,651 attendees. Since 1990, we have belonged to the National Executive Committee (NEC), where we have served as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and President. We have been Convention Advisors to Orlando, Florida, Charlotte, North Carolina (twice), Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and currently are Advisors for the 63rd National Square Dance Convention to be held in Little Rock, Arkansas in 2014. Our geographic state assignments are Tennessee and Arkansas, and our Phase Assignments are Hospitality, Special Events and Tours.
