Butch and Ampie Hayes (Homer and Amparo Hayes) are Vice President of the National Executive Committee (NEC), phase advisors for educationa and Sew and Save, and advisors for Amarillo, Texas. They joined the NEC in 2006 when they were the General Chairman for the 55th National Square Dance Convention in San Antonio, Texas. Prior to this Butch and Ampie had been the Assistant General Chairman for the 45th National Square Dance Convention in San Antonio. In 1987, they served the 36th National Square Dance Convention as workers for various committees and the Ways and Means representative for the Alamo Area Square and Round Dance Association. In 2001 Butch and Ampie were the President of the Texas State Federation of Square and Round Dancers. Prior to that they served as 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. They had also been President of the Alamo Area Square and Round Dance Association as well as holding all other elected offices for the Association and serving as club officers. Butch and Ampie are members of the Rambling Roses Square Dance club in Tyler and the Belles and Beaus Square Dance Club in San Antonio, a club they helped organize. Butch Hayes earned a B.S. in Business and a M.S. in Education from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and earned a Ph.D in Curriculum and Instruction. Butch has been a college instructor, dean and president, and is an active retiree and currently working at Tyler Junior College as Provost. Ampie Hayes earned a B.S. in Education from Texas Women's College and has done graduate work at North Texas State University. She is a retired teacher. Both Butch and Ampie served in the U.S. Peace Corps; Butch was a volunteer in Ethiopia and Ampie was a volunteer in Venezuela. Butch and Ampie met as Peace Corps administrators in Washington, D.C. and married in San Antonio in 1970. They have two children and five grandchildren.
